Why this project manager resume works
- 01The summary names the placement length and the budget she tracked in its first two lines. Entry-level project managers are screened on whether they have ever held a real schedule, and this answers that before the reader reaches the experience section.
- 02Every placement bullet carries a count — 240 tasks, 9 people, $480k, 3 workstreams. 'Assisted the project manager' is the default graduate bullet and it tells a hiring manager nothing about scale.
- 03One bullet is about spotting a supplier dependency three weeks before it reached the critical path. Noticing a problem early is the entry-level version of project judgement, and it is more convincing than any claim about being organised.
- 04The CAPM is listed in full with PMI as the issuer, not abbreviated into the skills line. It is the exact string a recruiter filters on when a posting says 'CAPM or working towards PMP'.
- 05The student-union events role is kept because it is vendors, a fixed date and a budget — the same shape of work at a smaller scale. Unrelated jobs earn their space when they share a structure with the target role.
Why this project manager resume works
- 01Projects sit ABOVE work experience on this one. When the only delivery work you have done is unpaid, the unpaid work is the evidence and it goes first — section order is a decision, not a default.
- 02The retail supervisor job stays, but every bullet is rewritten around delivery vocabulary: a fixed reopening date, four contractors, a phased POS rollout, a cutover checklist. Same job, project-facing description.
- 03One bullet is about recommending that a promotion be postponed because the stock would not land in time. A resume where every judgement call went the applicant's way reads as invented; one where they argued for the unwelcome answer reads as real.
- 04Each volunteer project names the constraint, the team size and whether the date held. 'Managed a project' says nothing; 'five volunteers, launched on the planned date, 90 bookings in the first month' is a project manager talking.
- 05Three certifications are listed with full names and issuing bodies — CAPM, PSM I and the Google certificate. With no paid PM title yet, these are the strings that get the resume matched to the posting at all.
Why this project manager resume works
- 01The dates are stated honestly: 11 of 12 committed releases held, and the one that moved is described with how much notice was given and what was traded. A resume claiming a perfect delivery record over four years is less believable than one that explains the miss.
- 02Bullets describe decisions that changed, not tools operated. Anyone can list Jira; the line worth reading is the one where estimate-then-commit was replaced with a throughput forecast and date error dropped from four weeks to under one.
- 03One bullet ends a workstream. Recommending that €210k of remaining budget be redirected after a partner API failed volume testing is the kind of call that separates a project manager from a scheduler.
- 04Dependency management is called out as its own result — blocked days per quarter falling from 34 to 9 — because cross-team dependencies are where mid-level delivery actually fails.
- 05Education has shrunk to two lines and the PMP does the credential work instead. Four years in, the degree stops being the argument.
Why this project manager resume works
- 01Scope words carry the senior bullets: 'set the stage-gate definition used by all 9 project managers', 'led the review that stopped the project', 'review every business case over €500k'. Ownership language is what separates a senior PM from a fast mid-level one.
- 02The hardest call is on the page, not hidden. Stopping a €1.8M automation project at gate 2 when its benefits case failed re-validation — and writing the closure report — is a stronger credential than a list of delivered projects.
- 03Governance appears as a measured outcome: change-request turnaround down from 18 days to 5 by delegating sub-€25k decisions and reserving the board for scope and date. Process improvements should carry a number like anything else.
- 04Commercial control is stated explicitly — two vendor contracts moved from time-and-materials to milestone-based payment, shifting about €600k of schedule risk to the supplier. At senior level, contract structure is part of the job.
- 05PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner and MSP Practitioner are named with their issuing bodies and their real levels, no inflation from Foundation to Practitioner. Credential accuracy is checked at offer stage.
- 06The Modern template puts skills in a sidebar, which suits a PM resume where the method, governance and tooling lists are long and the experience section needs the full width.
Why this project manager resume works
- 01The first sentence of the summary names the switch — eight years in hotel operations, two years in delivery — instead of leaving the reader to work it out from the dates. A pivot the reader discovers on their own looks like something being hidden.
- 02The chronology has no gap: operations manager to August 2024, associate project manager from August 2024, project manager from March 2025. Career-change resumes are rejected for unexplained gaps far more often than for missing technical skills.
- 03The hospitality career is kept and reframed for its transferable half only — a CAD $1.6M operating budget, twelve contractors through a ten-week refurbishment, a property that stayed open at 60% occupancy throughout. Nothing about guest satisfaction scores, because that half does not transfer.
- 04One go-live is described as deliberately delayed by two weeks after a pre-cutover data-quality check failed. Holding a launch is a project management decision, and describing it as a decision rather than a slip is the point.
- 05CAPM is listed, not PMP. She does not yet have the logged project hours PMI requires for the PMP, and claiming a credential you have not earned is the fastest way to lose an offer at verification.
